Our generation has been raised to be afraid of each other. Always suspicious. Scared, even. Our elementary teachers lecturing about "STRANGER DANGER" and "DON'T TALK TO STRANGERS." And now I am handicapped; incapable of meeting new people. Everyday passing by or walking along with hundreds of students, without a word being said. I noticed this silence immediately freshman year, but paralyzed I made no attempt to change. I hate myself for that now.
I get why parents pull their kids out of those programs we participated in in elementary school now; because those programs PROGRAMED us to believe that crap.
What if we started to teach the next generation to always have trust in each other? Wouldn't it be a relief? How liberating it would be.

I was in a dining hall earlier. It was actually a small room with maybe 5 television inside, all tuned to the same channel. There were maybe 15 of us in that tiny room. However, no one said a single word to each other and we all kept our heads up towards the television and pretended that we enjoyed the price is right.
And we all paid very careful attention to the commercials. Which is something that we dont want to do but resort to use as a buffering medium when closeby to strangers and prevent interaction.
Next thing you know: televisions in elevators, with 10 second programming so you can watch the entirety of it before stepping out.
hm, i agree. but, i think its because of a lot of shit that has happened, that makes people not trust others. a lot of shit happens.
